• U.S: “You will not be forsaken,” President Obama vowed to the people of Haiti, saying the United States’ initial $100 million commitment would grow over the course of the year. A specialized search-and-rescue team is already on the ground.
• The European Union’s initial donation to Haiti was $4.3 million. Belgium offered water-purification equipment, Sweden tents, and Luxembourg an urban search-and-rescue team.
• Brangelina: On Wednesday, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation announced a $1 million gift to Doctors Without Borders, which ran three hospitals in Port-au-Prince prior to the earthquake, and is now focused on providing emergency medical care. “It is incredibly horrible to see a catastrophe of this size hit a people who have been suffering from extreme poverty, violence, and unrest for so many decades," Jolie said.
• Media mogul Ted Turner, a longtime United Nations booster, has donated $1 million to the United Nations Foundation’s Haiti reconstruction efforts.
• The Red Cross promised an initial commitment of $10 million, and is shipping tarps, mosquito nets, and cooking sets for approximately 5,000 families from Panama to Haiti.

George Clooney will also host a telethon on January 22 for MTV.
• The U.K. offered $10 million from its Department of International Development. Secretary Douglas Alexander said, “The most pressing need is for international search and rescue teams—including firefighters from all over Britain—to get on with their work of saving lives.”
• France sent three airplanes and a field hospital to its former colony, and will evacuate 60 injured victims to Martinique and Guadeloupe for medical care.
• Canada deployed a 20-person reconnaissance team, and has pledged to match every dollar its citizens donate to Haiti, up to $50 million.
• The World Bank extended $100 million in emergency aid.
• The United Nations World Food Program donated 15,000 tons of nourishment.
• Cuba deployed 400 medical professionals, including 30 doctors.
• The Chinese Red Cross donated $1 million, and the Chinese government sent a 60-person search-and-rescue team.
• Israel sent a team of elite army corps engineers and a field hospital to Haiti in two El Al Boeing 747s.
• It’s just a rumor, but Russell Simmons tweeted that the embattled Tiger Woods was sending a cargo plane with a mobile hospital unit to Haiti.
