After a whirlwind tour of Canada, newlyweds Prince William and Kate Middleton kick off their first official to the U.S. today in California. The royal couple is due to be greeted by Gov. Jerry Brown at Los Angeles International Airport, after which they’ll be rushed off to a Hilton event showcasing trade and investment relations with the U.K.

Their first event highlights the royal couple’s main goal for the trip: forgoing the usual Hollywood glamour in favor of building working ties between the two nations. However, the future king and queen will spend some time rubbing elbows with the rich and famous at a black-tie dinner on Saturday night hosted by the BAFTA association—where they’re sure to run into Nicole Kidman, Tom Hanks, Jennifer Lopez, and more.

The young royals wowed the crowd following a friendly boat race on Prince Edward Island. William’s team took the win—insert chivalry joke here—and when it was all over Will and Kate hugged briefly, sending royal watchers into a tizzy.
