The first ever Macintosh computer commercial remains one of Apple’s most famous ads, debuting during the 1984 Super Bowl and quickly catapulting to fame. The Ridley Scott directed spot cost $1.5 million and resembled a mini-feature film complete with Orwellian drones, a Big Brother oligarch, and a blonde heroine working to enlighten the world. “You’ll see why 1984 won’t be like 1984” Apple promised, and indeed their ad broke the mold, ushering in a new era in the world of technology.
