Soap Stars Look Back
‘All My Children’ is signing off after 41 years. The stars talk to Maria Elena Fernandez about the finale.

After 41 years, All My Children will permanently vacate its ABC lunchtime slot on Friday. No more Erica Kane shenanigans; no more Tad Martin one-liners; no more Angie and Jesse loving; and no more David Hayward resurrections. For more than four decades, the unforgettable residents of Pine Valley have made viewers laugh and cry, sometimes in the same breath. Those watching this week know that creator Agnes Nixon has delivered on her promise to give fans a final week of nostalgic tributes. But expect some cliffhangers, too, when the Pine Valley saga says goodbye Friday on ABC. Luckily though, Dr. David Hayward (Vincent Irizarry)—known for bringing characters back from the dead—has worked his magic one last time: the show will be resurrected online sometime next year. Maria Elena Fernandez spent time with some of the All My Children actors as they wrapped up the classic soap in Los Angeles last month.
