The campus was on lockdown following the deadly shooting. Elliot said she thinks police are checking out the buildings on campus one by one and possibly evacuating them. It had already been quieter than usual due to finals, which have now been canceled. The university's police chief and president were both in Washington, D.C., for a hearing with the U.S. Department of Education to appeal a $55,000 fine issued to the school after the 2007 rampage.
