There's an ancient joke about a young MP who, late in the 19th century, posed a question to the aged Marquess of Salisbury. "What was the Schleswig-Holstein question really all about?"
The Marquess considered.
"Only three men ever really understood the Schleswig-Holstein question. One was Prince Albert—and he is dead. The second was a German professor—and he has gone mad. The third was myself—and I have forgotten all about it."
As an alumnus of the Harvard Law School ('87) and a one-time student of that institution's ferocious mid-1980s faculty strife, I feel much the same way about the resurfaced video of a young Barack Obama's suddenly famous "hug" of former Harvard Law School professor Derrick Bell.
But I've got an airline flight ahead of me this morning, and while on board, I'll prod old memories for the dusty story.
