Listen: Edward Luce Discusses America's Descent

ed-luce

On March 30th, Edward Luce came to the Daily Beast offices in Washington, DC to talk with David Frum about his new book, A Time to Start Thinking: America in the Age of Descent.

Luce, a columnist with the Financial Times, has written about the decline of America's middle class and the supreme challenges that the country faces in the face of global competition and a weakened domestic economy.

As Luce makes clear during the interview, America has a lot of catching up to do: "If you look at the objective measures, whether it is income, education outcomes, or social indicators like mental illness or stress, the [Middle Class] doesn't look good. It looks like it is getting worse." It will be difficult to overcome these challenges, and Luce argues that it will require major changes to America's current political system to make it happen.
