We mocked when the Mattel website said that there was limit of five per customer, but now, proving that there really is no accounting for taste, the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Barbie dolls have sold out.
Ruthless royal hawkers are now flogging the sets for a buy it now price of $200 on eBay, twice the original price.
Customers hoping to purchase these "exquisite portrait dolls of the bride and groom" on the Barbie collector home page are being greeted with the message, 'Sold out!'
But really, we shouldn't be surprised, for, as the accompanying blurb makes clear, these are a truly once-in-a-lifetime doll set, "The Catherine doll wears an elegant, yet chic, gown inspired by the original and features lovely ivory taffeta trimmed with lace and faux pearl buttons. Also includes wedding bouquet, silvery tiara, earrings and engagement ring. Continuing the elegance is Catherine’s handsome prince. William is dressed in the brilliant scarlet uniform of the Colonel of the Irish Guards, proudly decorated with royal blue sash, metallic cummerbund with bow trimmed in golden fringe, golden buttons and medallions."
We however feel sure that our favorite memorabilia king, @askmrmickey, will not be tempted.
Sixty years and hardly a slip.
