Ted Olson & David Boies

Watching Gloria Borger's CNN report on Ted Olson and David Boies arguing for same-sex marriage in Supreme Court, I can add here a footnote to history.

Borger at one point asks about the origin of Olson's commitment. I can attest that Olson had his current view on the issue at least as of February 2001, when he forcefully explained himself over a long boozy dinner with my inlaws and Ted's late wife, Barbara. If the question is, where does Ted's view come from, the answer is: someplace deep.
