As a result of Zara's unfortunate knock, a gold medal for the the British equestrian team now seems unlikely, however the penalty was far from a complete disaster and the team are now competing for a silver medal against New Zealand. Germany are secure in gold.

In an interview with the BBC afterwards, Zara, the Queen's grandaughter, wiped away a tear and said: "I just had to get on with it. Unfortunately that happens but he jumps magnificently and he lost two shoes yesterday. I'm just disappointed for the team but I'm chuffed to bits for him. You want to get the team in the best position and, hopefully, (team mates) Mary King and Tina Cook can jump good rounds. The whole week has been an amazing experience."
