Great Gatsby Costumes Were Designed By Miuccia Prada
The Prada designer collaborated with costume designer Catherine Martin to make 20s-inspired dresses for The Great Gatsby.
Warner Bros. Pictures
We all remember the trailer: a glittering, era-transcending piece of Baz Luhrman splendor. Indeed,The Great Gatsby is quickly shaping up to be one of the most hotly anticipated films of 2013 -- even if it was pushed back to July 2013.
Now, we’ve learned that the spectacular costumes are the work of Miuccia Prada, who collaborated with the film’s costume designer, Catherine Martin. Prada – who designs both Prada and Miu Miu – and Martin used 40 dresses from the Prada and Miu Miu archives as inspiration. "I usually try not to literally reference periods in my work, because that's not the way I think," Prada told Vogue. "But when I worked on the costumes, I realized how many pieces could become very 1920s with a little intervention and another point of view."
Kanye West was featured in the trailer -- and the film will feature Carey Mulligan wearing Prada. All sounds very 1920s to us.
Ellen Dons Madonna's Corset
Now we know the real Ellen DeGeneres. On Monday's episode of 'Ellen,' Madonna showed up wearing something rather, well, Madonna-esque (read 'highly unusual and just a little kinky'). When Ellen was similarly outfitted, the host cheekily said, 'I finally feel like myself.'
