DNC Diary: Delegates Boo After God, Jerusalem Added To Platform
Déjà Vu As Delegates Ignored, Formality Forgotten
An awkard moment just occurred on the convention floor. When a voice vote was taken to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and put God back in the Democratic Party's platform, there was visible (and audible) disconent from the delegates.
These motions required a 2/3 majority to pass, and it seemed unclear that they'd reached that threshold, yet they were deemed "passed." The moment brings back memories of last week's controversy with the Paulites. And yes, the delegates booed what I'm sure they thought was an unfair power grab from the chair.
Here are a few tweets that shine light on that moment.
And, from the always optimistic Markos Moulitsas (the man behind the Daily Kos), an explosive reaction (apologies for his language.)
Update (6:44 PM): Video added.
