Bring Back the Mugwumps

Tim Graham of the Media Research Council calls me a "mugwump" for stating that I'd join a vote for Romney to a vote against George Allen, Richard Mourdock, or Todd Akin if I lived in the relevant states.

He's got me busted: yes, I've had some good things to say about the merits of the Mugwumps.

A ferocious but highly choreographed politics, intensely felt but also remote from the concerns of everyday life: that was American politics 125 years ago, and in many respects it is American politics today. And that was the politics against which the political reformers of the 1870s and 1880s struggled.
