Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse who took her own life after being duped by two radio presenters and connecting a call to the nurse attending Kate Middleton, died after hanging herself in wardrobe, an inquest heard today. She had slashed her wrists.

She left three notes to her surviving three family members.

Jacintha Saldanha, who was working at the King Edward VII Hospital while the Duchess of Cambridge was being treated for morning sickness, was discovered by a colleague and a security guard in the nurses' quarters, according to a report of the inquest in the London Evening Standard.

Two of the suicide notes were found in her room and another was discovered among her possessions.

The Coroner described the 46-year-old's death as "terribly tragic". None of her family members were present today.

The brief hearing was also told that the nurse suffered injuries to her wrists.

The inquest was opened and adjourned until March 26.

Detective Chief Inspector James Harman said: "On Friday 7 December Jacintha Saldanha was found by a colleague and a member of security staff. Sadly she was found hanging. There were also injuries to her wrist.
The London Ambulance Service was called to the scene. At this time there are no suspicious circumstances."

A memorial service for Jacintha will be held at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday.
