If you’ve ever seen Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman or Rachel Weisz walk a red carpet, then you’ve seen the work of Kate Young—an uber-cool Hollywood stylist who’s now branched out her talents to include design.

Young, who has served as a stylist for droves of celebrities, editorial shoots, and runway shows like Jason Wu, debuts her inaugural design outing this week with a new eveningwear capsule collection launching at Target on April 14.

The collection is imbued with Young’s personal tough-luxe style that’s inspired many an avid aesthete. Predominantly black, designs include a tiered ruffle cocktail frock, star-printed bodysuits, and cute accessories—like tiny crystal barrettes. Pieces retail between $15 and $90. Young says that her designs are directly linked to her own fancy for “things that are a little edgy but classic. I like things to be classic with a twist, and with a wink.”

Young’s Target collection is the latest career accomplishment for the stylist, who in 2012 year was named Hollywood’s most powerful stylist by The Hollywood Reporter (this year she placed fourth). She started out in fashion as an assistant to Anna Wintour, soon rising the ranks to become an in-house stylist for Vogue. Later working with other publications, Young once served as fashion editor at large for Interview magazine, and styled Teen Vogue’s first cover. In a few years’ time, she became as known for her fashion spreads as her personal style—her platinum blonde hair and affinity for all things Chanel have widely been imitated.

Young became the go-to celebrity stylist for Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams, experiencing her break-out year in 2011 while dressing both for their ‘Best Actress’ turn at the Oscars (Portman was nominated for Black Swan and Williams for Blue Valentine). Young told The Daily Beast that she aims to make clients “a really well-curated version of themselves.” That vision has nabbed her rising songstress Sky Ferreira as a new client.

And it also extends to Target. Young hopes that her eveningwear collection, which is conveniently launching in time for prom season, will offer “a piece of Hollywood magic at a price that’s affordable. It’s the idea of having access to pieces with design integrity.”
