The Drastic Effect of Texas’s New Abortion Bill—All in One Interactive Map

This week, the Texas House voted to ban all abortions after 20 weeks—legislation that would significantly cut the availability of a procedure that is already difficult for many women in the state to access. See the potential fallout.

To see how the bill would affect the geography of abortion acess in Texas, The Daily Beast used information collected in January to create an interactive map. If the bill passes, any woman who wants a late-term abortion will have to travel out of state—as far as 500 miles, depending on where she lives. For example, women more than 20 weeks pregnant in Houston and Dallas would have to drive roughly 200 miles to the nearest clinic in Louisiana, some 65 miles more than they would have to drive today. Women in San Antonio would have to drive over 350 miles—as of now, they could access a clinic within 20 miles. Hover below to explore all the data.
