Indie-pop singer and model Sky Ferreira -- who walked the Marc Jacobs runway just last week -- was arrested in New York City for drug possession on Saturday. Police stopped Ferreira and her boyfriend, DIIV frontman Zachary Cole Smith, for traffic violations as the couple drove through Saugerties Village following Smith's performance earlier that night. During a routine check, police not only found the car had stolen New Jersey plates, but after searching the interior, they discovered a plastic bag containing 42 "decks" of heroin as well as ecstasy.
Police reportedly charged Ferreira, 21, with two counts of possession. Smith, 28, was reportedly also charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, as well as possession of stolen property and aggravated unlicensed driving, according to the Daily Freeman. Billboard reported that Ferreira resisted arrest, but the couple were ultimately taken to Ulster County Jail and have since been released on bail.
The arrest occurred only 24 hours after Ferreira announced the release of her debut album, Night Time, My Time. And it's been a busy few weeks for the singer/model, Ferreira walked in Marc Jacobs's Spring/Summer 2014 show at New York Fashion Week last Thursday, and is planned to open for the band Vampire Weekend in Philadelphia next Thursday. Smith also has his fair share of fashion experience: he walked the runway for Saint Laurent in Paris earlier this year, and starred in the brand's Fall/Winter campaign.
In an interview in June, Ferreira told Billboard, "Yeah, I do go out, but I'm not a drug addict by any means." While she has yet to comment on her arrest, Smith tweeted from DIIV's account: "What you're reading is a police blotter, not the outcome of a court case. These cops wanted to fuck us, and they did. Sky did nothing wrong." [Billboard]
