Jane Birkin's daughter Kate Barry found dead in Paris

The daughter of actress Jane Birkin and composer John Barry was found dead outside her apartment in Paris. She was alone at the time of her death.

Kate Barry, the daughter of John Barry, the legendary composer of soundtracks for 11 James Bond films, has been found dead outside her Paris apartment after falling from her fourth floor apartment.

The 46-year-old photographer, whose mother was Jane Birkin, the British woman whose affair with French singer Serge Gainsbourg symbolised the 1960s, had struggled with alcohol and drug problems.

Police said antidepressants were found in her apartment in the wealthy 16th arrondissement of Paris.

She was alone at the time of her death, according to police sources who said there was no sign of a break-in at the flat.

Barry, who had a son born in 1987, was the half-sister of of the actress Charlotte Gainsbourg and of the model and singer Lou Doillon.

John Barry and Jane Birkin separated in the year of her birth and Kate Barry was raised until the age of 13 by Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg and then by Birkin's new partner, film-maker Jacques Doillon.

John Barry, who died in 2011 after composing the music for some of the most popular movies of the 20th century, wrote his best-known music for James Bond films such as Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever.

But there were many other greats penned by Barry, including Out of Africa, The Ipcress File, Midnight Cowboy and Dances with Wolves.

Kate Barry, whose photographs featured in the Telegraph magazine, as well as in France's Paris Match and Elle, had recently exhibited her work titled "Point of View. Portraits. Still Life." in a gallery in Paris.

She suffered from alcohol and drugs problems which led her to open a centre for addicts in Soissons, near Paris.
