Exclusive: Watch Bill Clinton Blast Corn Farmers in the Katie Couric Documentary ‘Fed Up’

In this exclusive clip from the doc Fed Up, in theaters May 9, the former president sits down with the former CBS News anchor to discuss the problems with the American diet.

The new eye-opening documentary Fed Up, in theaters May 9, examines how the rate of obesity in the U.S. has shot up in the years since the U.S. government issued its very first dietary guidelines 30 years ago.

Written and directed by Stephanie Soechtig, and hosted and produced by Katie Couric, the film investigates how and why we gain weight, the public’s obsession with appearance, and how to combat the troubling rise in childhood obesity—one that will see generations of American kids live shorter lives than their parents. LA Weekly called Fed Up “the Inconvenient Truth of the health movement.”

In this exclusive clip, Couric sits down with former President Bill Clinton and asks him why Americans aren’t doing more to reduce their sugar intake.

“I can’t answer that, particularly since corn has been turned into fructose that’s been used as a sweetener for soft drinks, and I don’t think that’s a good use of corn,” says Clinton. “But I think that America is still insufficiently alert to the damage we are doing long-term to our collective health by too much sugar intake.”
