If this were true, Kanye West would be pissed. I’m talking Hedi Slimane-slighting pissed. I’m talking yelling-at-a-kid-in-a-wheelchair pissed. However, a sex tape that’s in heavy circulation online that hackers (and pervy voyeurs) claim features Mrs. West, Kim Kardashian, is a big ol’ fake.
“The Fappening,” the obscene moniker given to the widespread hacking of celebrities’ iCloud online storage systems that’s yielded personal (and private) photos and videos of A-list female stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna, Cara Delevingne, Scarlett Johansson, and others, has died down, and the latest leaks, which include actress Kaya Scoledario (The Maze Runner) and actress Chloe Bennet (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), feature the stars—thankfully—fully-clothed.
Last night, a new video claiming to feature the most famous Kardashian leaked online and was being spread wide via 4chan and Reddit message boards.
The video clip, which is 39 seconds in length, is a sex tape starring a woman who is a dead-ringer for Kardashian having sex with an unidentified white male in close-up. Hackers have leaked the clip as a teaser for a full sex tape, which they claim will be released online soon. In the clip, only a flashing glimpse of the upper-half of the woman’s face is shown, but online sharers on Reddit and 4chan boards are boasting that it’s Kardashian due to the physical resemblance, and the fact that the woman in the tape is sporting the same hairband around her wrist and nail polish as Kardashian in the previously leaked (and stolen) nude photos of the celeb. Well, Mr. and Mrs. West can rest easy: The tape does not feature Kardashian, but rather another woman.
Kardashian, of course, was a lowly Paris Hilton acolyte/assistant before rising to fame and fortune thanks in part to a highly publicized sex tape with then-boyfriend Ray J. The tape, which was reportedly filmed in 2003, “leaked” online in Feb. 2007. After Kardashian filed suit against the tape’s purchaser, Vivid Entertainment, she settled with the adult film company for $5 million and Vivid distributed the sex tape with the title Kim K Superstar. The tape was a bestseller, and the rest, as they say, is history.
When asked recently about sex tapes in an interview with British GQ—more specifically, whether or not she and her husband, Kanye West, have made any—Kardashian said no way.
“My husband Kanye and I have an amazing sex life,” she told GQ. “So far as the sex tape is concerned, whether or not we’ve made another… If we have, it’s never something I want to go public.” She added, “I never want to make the same mistake twice.”
This faux-leak seems like yet another instance where the hackers and perpetuators of this gross invasion of privacy should, in the words of Jennifer Lawrence, “cower with shame.”
