Westboro Founder’s Son Taunts Church Over Gay Marriage
In the realm of hate filled religious extremists, the Westboro Baptist Church have their own special planet, one filled with the vilest and vitriolic views and actions. The human filth picketing the funerals of soldiers killed in action and the victims of hate crimes with “God Hates Fags” signs? Yeah, that’s them. It’s an organization so horrendous they’ve transcended horror to become viewed more a pop culture curiosity than actual religious group, a caricature of the lunatic fringe they inhabit.
And so it is with an extra exclamation point of humor and joy that we point to the Facebook post from Nate Phelps, the son of Westboro’s deceased founder, congratulating the “church” for being so horrible as to guide the rest of humanity toward the light of recognizing same-sex marriage and LGBTQ rights.
Nate Phelps is one of 13 children fathered by Westboro founder Fred Phelps, who died in 2014. After literally fleeing the church and his father’s abuse, he has become one of their most outspoken critics, and a champion for LGBTQ rights. In addition to the above Facebook post, he posted this via his Twitter account:
Via Twitter, Phelps also offers to officiate any LGBTQ weddings, a far cry from the rabid, wretched yowling of his former family and their paltry 40-member congregation as their particular breed of intolerance becomes, like them, a thing of the past.
