Having Super Bowl withdrawals? Don’t worry, the NFL draft is here for your football fix.
It’s that time of year again, where your favorite NFL teams pick their newest members. The NFL draft will begin with round 1 on Thursday, April 27, and end with rounds 4 to 7 on Saturday, April 29.
If you unplugged after the Super Bowl and have no idea what’s happening in the football world, here are a few of things to keep an eye on.
Positive drug tests from players keep cropping up. Both Reuben Foster of Alabama and Jabrill Peppers of Michigan have tested positive for diluted urine samples from the NFL scouting combine in March. Foster, who won the Butkus Award, which is given to the nation's best college linebacker, was not invited to the draft at all. Peppers, on the other hand, can still partake in the draft as of now, but his stock may plummet.
Another thing that may affect draft picks will be Ohio State’s Gareon Conley’s recent rape allegations.
According to TMZ, the projected first-round pick was named by a woman in a police report that claims Conley raped her. Conley has denied the allegations. His attorney called the accusations “ludicrous and ridiculous.”
Players’ personal news aside, surprisingly, there is no top pick for round one. Texas A&M’s Myles Garrett is the projected top pick, but it’s not a unanimous decision. However, if North Carolina’s Mitchell Trubisky is not picked first by the San Francisco 49ers, it will be a major upset.
What will go down? You’ll have to tune in to find out.
