Clinton and Obama Pledge $100M for Muslim World

Following President’s Obama’s June 4 speech in Cairo promising a “new start” with the international Muslim community, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced that the United States will begin implementing a variety of programs in the Muslim community that will revolve around encouraging entrepreneurship, economic development, and education. "We are committed to building ladders of opportunity to help develop the enormous talent that resides in the people of this region," Clinton said during an Arab development forum in Marrakesh on Tuesday. The programs will be geared toward increasing scientific and technical collaboration, women’s rights, and religious cooperation, and include a $76 million project to increase economic development in Yemen, a $30 million project to keep young people in Jordan away from crime, and a 2010 entrepreneurship summit in Washington D.C., which will bring together Muslim and U.S. leaders.
