Bill Tomaszewski is the official beekeeper of Google, tending the honeycombs on the search giant’s Mountain View, California, campus, when he’s not earning a living as a lawyer for Wine.com. In a bid to keep employees happy and productive, Google lets workers form outdoor clubs, like the Bee Group. Tomaszewski leads a group of about 30 Google employees in stingproof suits who tend to the hives, painted red, blue, yellow, and green—the colors of the company logo. Some workers were nervous about the hives, as the company holds many outdoor activities. But Silicon Valley is seeing a “honey wave,” as more people understand the importance of bees to the food chain.
