Giffords’ Husband Breaks Silence

On the same day Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ condition was upgraded to serious, her husband Mark Kelly gave his first public message about the tragedy that put her in the hospital. Speaking to hundreds of mourners at the Tucson Museum of Art, Kelly—a NASA astronaut—said his wife was “improving a little bit each day. She’s a fighter.” He also said that Gabrielle viewed Gabe Zimmerman, the staffer killed in last week’s shooting, as “a young brother” and that “someday she’ll get to tell you how she felt about Gabe herself.”
