Late Friday afternoon, North Carolina police issued an arrest warrant for Ann Pettway, the woman who kidnapped baby Carina White 23 years ago, raised her as her own, and then vanished when the girl she called Nejra Nance recently tracked down her birth parents. Pettway allegedly kidnapped White from a Harlem hospital on August 4, 1987, when White was only a few weeks old and had been sent by her parents for hospital care to be treated for a high fever. When White was 16, she confronted Pettway with doubts that she was not her real mother, and then began a dogged search to find her lost family. The FBI is looking for Pettway and her 13-year-old son, but have not yet found her.
