Now that Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi violently beat back protesters from his Tripoli stronghold, firing on citizens who had taken to the streets after praying at mosques, he’s apparently arming civilian supporters to set up checkpoints and patrol the streets of the capital. President Obama issued unilateral sanctions against Libya, and the U.N. is meeting to consider multinational sanctions, including arms and asset freezes and a travel ban. Meanwhile, the U.S., France, Germany, and Britain circulated a resolution to the International Criminal Court to investigate possible crimes against humanity.
