Haiti Cheers Aristide’s Return
In a momentous return to the island that ousted him as president—not once, but twice—Jean-Bertrand Aristide was greeted with a rapturous welcome in Haiti on Friday. Just seven years ago, Aristide was given an undignified boot, and sent to exile in South Africa, but after his arrival Friday thousands of supporters flocked to Aristide’s estate to wish him well. His presence stands to complicate Haiti’s troubled presidential election, which wraps up in two days.
