Japan Races to Prevent Reactor Explosion

There’s no rest for weary workers at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power complex. After plugging a leak of radioactive water, workers are now scrambling to prevent a potential hydrogen explosion at the troubled plant, which was slammed by a tsunami and earthquake nearly a month ago. The plant’s owner is concerned that radiation may have broken water into hydrogen and oxygen, leading to a buildup of the highly explosive gas. They hope to prevent a blast by pumping in nitrogen, an inert gas.
