NATO Hammers Gaddafi's Navy
The battle for Libya moved to the sea Friday, as a rash of NATO airstrikes targeted Muammar Gaddafi’s navy vessels in Tripoli’s ports. The international coalition reported that Gaddafi’s ships had been “indiscriminately mining” sea lanes near rebel-held cities and threatening NATO vessels. At least five ships were hit, foreign journalists reported. Libyan authorities, naturally, reacted with hostility, and claimed that the struck boats were never engaged in warfare. With the country embroiled in fighting, Tripoli’s port has seen little traffic.
