John Edwards was indicted Friday on six counts, including conspiracy, four counts of illegal campaign contributions, and one count of making false statements. The judgment was the result of a lengthy investigation of Edwards' use of money from political donors to cover up an affair he was having with a former campaign aide, Rielle Hunter, while he was running for president. Sources say a plea agreement fell through because Edwards wasn't willing to go as far as prosecutors wanted in accepting criminal culpability.
