FIFA may require 2022 World Cup matches to be played at three 30-minute periods if temperatures in the stadiums soar past 32 degrees C (90 degrees F). The nation has promised to provide favorable conditions to allow the matches to go on as usual, with two 45-minute halves. A private agency has developed a zero-carbon cooling system that will help maintain a stable temperature. A spokesman for FIFA commented on the technical change: "This possibility has not been discussed. In any case, this would require a change in the laws of the game, and therefore would have to be analyzed and approved by the International Football Association Board in the first place."
