Can Britain Bratton down the hatches? David Cameron reportedly wants to import Bill Bratton from the U.S. to head up Scotland Yard, but Britain’s Home Secretary Theresa May has decided only British citizens can apply for the position. Bratton has led the New York, Los Angeles, and Boston police departments, and Cameron believes Bratton’s “proven success overseas” will help turn around the police force. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson and Deputy Commissioner John Yates resigned amid allegations police officers were taking bribes from the News of the World in the phone-hacking investigation. While there are internal candidates for the job, Cameron has criticized the “whole culture of policing” at Scotland Yard as one its major problems.
