Lloyd Blankfein is worried about something, although he hasn’t been charged in any civil or criminal case thus far. But according to Reuters, the Goldman Sachs CEO has hired Reid Weingarten, a high-profile Washington defense lawyer who’s an expert in backing clients incliuding an Enron accounting officer. Blankfein has spent the past two years dodging accusations of fraud and conflicts of interest after the financial crisis. Investigations of Goldman’s role in the crisis is ongoing, and last year the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission scored a $550 million settlement against the firm in a fraud lawsuit. “Why do you bring in someone like that?” a source told Reuters. “They’re taking it seriously.”
