    City Institutes Prostitution Meter

There’s no way to escape taxes anymore, even if you’re a freelance prostitute in Bonn, Germany. The city has created prostitution tax meters, which look like parking meters, where a freelance sex worker has to pay a fee before starting her work for the night. The fare buys her a whole night of work no matter how many clients she has. If she doesn’t buy the $9 ticket, she faces a fine on the second violation and a possible ban on working in the profession for future violations. Germany already collects taxes from registered brothels, and Bonn officials say this allows them to collect their fair share from freelance sex workers. But the freelance prostitutes aren’t happy, with many arguing it is a double taxation since prostitutes already pay income tax.
