Thousands Flee Penn. Flooding

Tropical Storm Lee’s leftovers are still packing a punch. Officials in Pennsylvania have ordered the mandatory evacuation of nearly 100,000 people (earlier reports ranged as high as 120,000) in the northeast part of the state due to expected flooding of the Susquehanna River, and three people have been reported dead in central Pennsylvania. The river is expected to crest to almost 40 feet by Friday, which would be the area’s second-worst flood ever. Flood watches are also in effect from Maryland up to New England—some of the same areas that are still recovering from the damage of Hurricane Irene. Pockets of the region are expected to receive up to 10 inches of rain.
