    Doritos Creator Dies at 97

A sad day in snacks: Arch West, the Frito-Lay executive who is credited with creating Doritos, died last week in Dallas at 97, his family has announced. West, who worked in marketing at the food giant, was vacationing near San Diego in 1961 when he ate a delicious fried tortilla chip. He brought the idea back to the Frito-Lay team, but they were skeptical, so West commissioned marketing research to prove his point. The rest is history. West’s daughter told The Dallas Morning News that the family plans on “tossing Dorito chips in before they put the dirt over the urn.”
