Obama Defends Plan B Decision

President Obama is standing by the controversial decision by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to stop Plan B morning-after pills from becoming available to women under 17 without a prescription. “As the father of two daughters, it makes sense to apply some common sense,” said Obama, though he said he didn’t get involved in the decision. He said Sebelius “could not be confident a 10-year-old or an 11-year-old going to a pharmacy would [not] be able to … buy a medication that could have an adverse effect.” Yesterday Sebelius overruled Food and Drug Administration regulators who said the pill should be available to all women without a prescription.
