After a lockout threatened to cancel the entire NBA season a few months ago, professional basketball made its triumphant return Sunday. Unfortunately, it seems as though the Dallas Mavericks were unaware of this. The defending champions were thoroughly drubbed by the Miami Heat in a rematch of last year’s final. Before the game, the Mavericks raised their new championship banner, and then went on to lose 105-94—and at one point were behind by more than 30 points. Meanwhile, the New York Knicks beat the Boston Celtics. The real loser of the day: commissioner David Stern, who was booed by Maverick fans.
