Gingrich to African-Americans: Get Off Food Stamps

One would think being accused of racism after calling Barack Obama "the food-stamp president" would deter a presidential candidate from going after the welfare program and its association with the African-American community. But not Newt Gingrich. The former House speaker kicked off his New Hampshire campaign Thursday at a town-hall meeting where he didn't hesitate to dive right into the controversial connection. "I will go to the NAACP convention and explain to the African-American community why they should demand paychecks instead of food stamps," he promised.
