Legions of college students are rushing to get their “research” out of the way, as Wikipedia announced that it will go dark all day Tuesday, from midnight to midnight, in protest of congressional efforts to legislate against online piracy. Many companies are going offline to express opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Act—two bills that critics like the White House say will encourage censorship more than curtail copyright violations. Jimmy Wales, cofounder of Wikipedia, tweeted: “Student warning! Do your homework early. Wikipedia protesting bad law on Wednesday!”
