Newt Gingrich has finally reached his goal of raising $2 million. Press secretary R. C. Hammond said the final surge came from an online “money bomb”—$1.7 million came from online donations. The Gingrich campaign has raked in the second-least amount of funds of all the GOP candidates, but it was also announced today that Sheldon Adelson’s wife, Miriam, will donate $5 million to the pro-Gingrich super PAC Winning Our Future to help with campaigning in Florida. Rick Santorum, with $1.3 million, has raised the least amount of money so far, and Mitt Romney tops the GOP donation field with $32.6 million. President Obama’s reelection campaign, however, surpasses all of the GOP candidates in terms of funds, having raised $99.6 million so far.
