The glitter bomb is rooted in gay-rights activism. Lately, however, activists of all kinds are throwing glitter to make a point. Last week Mitt Romney received his very first glitter bomb—something of a rite of passage for conservative politicians—but instead of Romney’s stance on gay rights, the glitter thrower on this occasion was actually protesting Romney's proposed immigration policies. While campaigning in Minneapolis Monday night, Ron Paul also received a nontraditional glitter bomb. A man by the name of Charlie McAwesome threw glitter at the Texas representative and yelled, “Housing and health care are human rights, not privileges!”
