    Tough Race Ahead for Indiana’s Lugar

    For Richard Lugar, a Republican senator from Indiana, defending his seat in Congress won’t be easy. According to a new poll commissioned by Indiana’s Democratic candidate for the Senate, Joe Donnelly, Lugar is winning against his Tea Party–backed opponent Richard Mourdock, the state’s treasurer, but just barely. He as a lead of 45 percent to 39 percent. “After more than 30 years as Indiana’s senator, Richard Lugar is fighting for his political life,” the pollsters analyzed. “Despite spending millions, Lugar continues to lose ground in the Republican primary and faces the very real possibility that on May 8, he’ll be out of a job.”
