Both the Assad regime and antigovernment forces are blaming the other side for breaking a tenuous, five-day-old ceasefire agreement. Government troops bombarded several Syrian cities Tuesday, but say they were only responding to provocations and accused the rebels of trying to sabotage the fragile peace deal. The military also deployed attack helicopters to small villages around Mount Zawiya. Activist groups estimated somewhere between 16 and 50 deaths on Tuesday alone. Both Homs and Busra al-Harir, two strongholds of the rebels, were reportedly shelled by tanks.
