President Obama gave a live, televised address to the nation on Tuesday night from a military base in Afghanistan after he arrived there in a surprise visit earlier in the day. Obama also made the trip to sign a strategic partnership agreement with Afghan President Hamid Karzai that reiterates that the Afghans will be fully responsible for the security of their country by 2014. Obama said in his speech: “The number of our troops in harm’s way has been cut in half, and more will be coming home soon. We have a clear path to fulfill our mission in Afghanistan, while delivering justice to al Qaeda.”
