Penn State released a highly anticipated report this morning detailing an internal investigation’s findings on whether late football coach Joe Paterno and other top staff handled the allegations of child sex abuse against Jerry Sandusky appropriately. And it’s pretty damning. “The most saddening finding ... is the total and consistent disregard by the most senior leaders at Penn State for the safety and welfare of Sandusky’s child victims,” the report reads. “Four of the most powerful people [at Penn State] failed to protect against a child sexual predator harming children for over a decade.” Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett issued a statement after the report, saying that he hoped the university had learned “there are monsters among us” and to handle allegations of sexual abuse differently in the future.
