'Bourne' Unseats 'Dark Knight'

The narrative architect behind the "Bourne" film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: "The Bourne Legacy". The writer/director expands the "Bourne" universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (JEREMY RENNER) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.

The Bourne Legacy, the fourth installment in the spy franchise, overtook The Dark Knight Rises on Sunday with $40.3 million in its opening weekend. Coming in second place is The Campaign with Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis at $27.4 million. The third Batman flick was pushed from three weeks at No. 1 to third place, earning $19.5 million and a total of $400 million so far. Turns out Matt Damon isn't being missed too badly—seems the audience likes Jeremy Renner.
