Paper Names Mark Thompson CEO

The news seems fit to print. The New York Times announced Tuesday that it will be hiring Mark Thompson as its new president and chief executive officer. Thompson, who is leaving his post as director general of the British Broadcasting Corporation, will start in November. The Times hasn’t had a chief executive officer since December 2011, when Janet Robinson stepped down after seven years at the helm. Thompson, who joined the BBC in 1979, has been integral to the channel’s digital expansion and cost-cutting initiatives. Thompson will also sit on The New York Times’ board of directors.
