Dallas to Spray for West Nile

After more than 200 cases of West Nile and 10 deaths linked to the virus were reported in Dallas County in recent weeks, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings declared the outbreak a state of emergency and authorized the first aerial spraying of insecticide in the city in nearly four decades. Though Dallas City Council members voiced concerns about the health effects of the aerial spraying, the state health commissioner said the risk of spraying is minimal compared to the damage an ongoing spread of the virus could cause. Spraying is expected to being Thursday evening.
